Industry Voices on Software Engineering Challenges in Cyber-Physical Production Systems Engineering

Several colleagues from Austria, Germany, Sweden, and I investigated the challenges on Software Engineering for Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS). The results can be found in our paper "Industry Voices on Software Engineering Challenges in Cyber-Physical Production Systems Engineering" on this year's ETFA conference. In our study, we identified eight major fields of challenges for software engineering in CPPS:

  1. Complexity
  2. Multidisciplinarity
  3. Variability
  4. Agility
  5. Real-Time Requirements
  6. Education
  7. Knowledge Management
  8. Data Analytics & AI

SPP 1593 Book of Results released

The book of results of the DFG SPP 1593 is now released. The book is targeted at researchers and advanced professionals. It first describes the nature of software evolution, an overview of the specific challenges and an introduction to the case studies used in the SPP. Then it describes in multiple chapters the results of the SPP in different areas. I specifically participated in the chapters for Continuous Design Decision Support and Maintaining Security in Software Evolution.

WSRE'19 in Bad Honnef, Germany

I just came back from the 21st Workshop on Software Reengineering (WSRE) and 10th Workshop Design for Future (DFF) in Bad Honnef, Germany. The workshops were packed with interesting talks. While the DFF is usually more focused on academic talks, the WSRE has a nice balance of industry and academia, and always is a very friendly and productive environment. I had the chance to present the results and context of a student project, that I held together with Jens Holschbach at the winter term 2019/2020 at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Also, I was gratefully elected vice speaker of the group Software-Reenginering in the German Society for Informatics (Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GI))

I successfully defended my PhD thesis

I am happy to announce that I defended my doctoral thesis for the doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) with highest honors on 23 March 2018. In my dissertation "Explicitly Integrated Architecture - An Approach for Integrating Software Architecture Model Information with Program Code" I investigate the relationship between software architecture models and program code. read more...
